In Transit (Circle in the Square) Book, Music and Lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez, James-Allen Ford, Russ Kaplan and Sara Wordsworth
In Transit is a new and very original a cappella musical set in the New York subway system. It tells the stories of a baker’s dozen characters (3 played by the terrific Moya Angela) who are all trying to get by, move up, hang on and be human in the Big Apple.
There are love stories, love thwarted stories, family drama, family comfort and the kindness of strangers.
The set is a subway station in which the cars move, the people move and Steven HEAVEN Cantor, as Boxman, moves you with his unbelievable vocal acrobatics and his subway philosopher vibe.
In Transit isn’t just a New York story; with, perhaps, the exception of the Pizza Rat—an exclusively New York thing. In Transit is the story of all of us; how we are all in constant motion trying to reach a person, place or time but we’re mostly, as one of the songs says, “Not There Yet”.
In these trying times, go see In Transit for its beautiful voices, its life affirming messages, its optimism and love. You’ll be glad you took the trip.
